Planning
Here it is. The famous mission that everyone had been wondering about. It's the 747 mission, and it's pretty exciting. There are also some very interesting features involved in the game, so the planning gets very interesting. The first thing to note is that the map is very large. The plane itself is located in the middle of a runway, and in order to make it there with some cover, you're supposed to follow a tanker truck along the tarmac to the plane. This truck runs about the speed of a "normal" walk, so start by designing the plan to run up along the plane. If you're feeling gutsy, you may decide to screw the truck altogether. However, on more difficult settings, that won't really be possible. Next, set up at least one or two snipers on the ridge overlooking the runway. Here, your snipers should have a good view of the 3rd floor door, where a terrorist will be standing. When the mission commences, your first point will be to snipe off that target. I recommend sending one team of assaulters up the cargo bay, and another up the main door (where the sniper just picked off the baddie). The team that goes through the cargo hold will need to wax some will hidden terrorists, and so I'd recommend that you handle that job. The third floor should be handled by the AI team, as the hostages are fairly well guarded here. Finally, the AI should handle cleaning up the first class cabin. The player-controlled team should handle the clean up--check your HBS, and then clear out the hostages.

Execution
Execution isn't as bad as you probably thought it would be. Try to keep pace with the tanker truck, and when you feel the time is right, break for the cargo hold. There will probably be a guard in the doorway, pick him off early. Then, give the go-code, tell the snipers to fire, and move into the cargo hold. Check your HBS for the position of the 2nd terrorist. You may want to readjust your map size after running across that tarmac. The stairs are located in the center of the plane. As soon as you reach the top of the stairs, clean up the terrorists surrounding the hostages, if that hasn't already been done by the other team. Then, move to the back of the plane and wax the remaining tango's. By now, the first floor cabin should be cleared. Grab the hostages, and bring them back to the extraction zone, located next to the insertion zone. |
