Interview #4
With Joe Sauder

[ 1. With the introduction of medium machine guns, how will
these guns perform in your AI teammates hands? Will they
be able to lay down suppressive fire or will they shoot
in short bursts like other weapons. Will there be a new
class for the medium machine gunners such as the one for
snipers? ] :: |
The purpose
of the changes made to the Urban Operations executable has been
to enhance the Rogue Spear engine, while not creating a different
game. For this reason, we have not added any new AI code to deal
with medium machine guns, and they will be treated just like any
other weapon that an AI team member is carrying. We had debated
coming up with a new class of AI to handle the medium machine
guns, but the risk associated with such a change is pretty high.
We don't want to introduce more bugs into the code by adding that
much complexity. -- Joe Sauder (RSE)

[ 2. Will Urban Operations feature any new Rainbow team
members? ] :: |
No new additions
to the Rainbow roster. -- John Sonedecker (RSE)

[ 3. A notable bug and hot topic from Rogue Spear is the
displacement of the reticule on the server side only and
not on clients. Greg Stelmack has confirmed that the original
design is for all players to experience the same reticule
movement. Will this bug be tackled in Urban Operations?
] :: |
Yes it will.
We will even the playing field for server and clients, although
we've not yet decided just how. The most likely solution at this
point will be to have the server's reticule displace just like
the clients' reticules. Although we have toyed around with the
idea of doing away with the reticule displacement in multiplayer
games altogether. We'll see. -- Joe Sauder (RSE)

[ 4. With the inclusion of sniper rifles in Rogue Spear,
will Urban Operations feature even more prime sniping opportunities?
] :: |
A few of
the new maps do include a good sniping spot or two, but no more
so then the Rogue Spear ones. -- John Sonedecker (RSE)
| ::
[ 5. Fast firing machine guns that were found in Nato 2.0
for Rainbow Six caused a significant amount of lag. Do the
new medium machine guns found in Rogue Spear cause the same
potential problems? ] :: |
The new medium
machine guns will not fire at a higher rate of speed than our
existing weapons. They carry a lot more ammo, but the rate of
fire is not significantly increased. For this reason, we do not
expect to see any lag effects related to these new weapons. --
