[ 1. It is known that there several cheats in R6 including
hacking the constants.txt file the allow people to have
an advantage in multiplayer games. Why are some of these
cheats possible and what have you guys done to prevent
this in Rogue Spear? ] ::
|
The why is
because people want to be able to edit and customize the game
to their liking. Game developers walk a fine line between letting
people tweak the game and preventing cheating. The constants file
caused a lot of cheating issues, so we've completely removed it
for Rogue Spear. All those constants are now rolled into the executable.
We've caught lots of other configuration files and made sure that
the server sends them across so that everyone has the same values.
I'm sure there are still some server side cheats (e.g. the server
customizing one particular gun), but if you can't trust your server
in a multiplayer game, you can't trust anyone. We can't eliminate
those without preventing people from editing weapons or making
other mods.

[ 2. Besides the constants.txt file, there are several "world"
bugs that come from the environment such as the ability
to crouch inside boxes or clipinside the ground making yourself
invisible. Are you guys able to prevent more of this from
happening in the updated Rogue Spear engine? ] :: |
We are testing
the levels thoroughly to find these geometry issues. This is also
where the beta testers come in; they should be playing these levels
trying to find these cheats as well.
| ::
[ 3. How do user mods fit into this whole scheme? How are
users being prevent from creating their own weapons and
using them in multiplayer games? ] :: |
If we allow
mods, then we give users some control over the game data. If the
users can edit the game data, then they can cheat, period. We
have taken steps to ensure that the server data is used by everyone
so that everyone is on a level playing field, but as mentioned
above this means you need to be able to trust the server. We could
eliminate mods, but you guys don't really want that, now, do you?
